How Does Amazon Relay Verify Insurance? RMIS, COIs & Renewals Explained

Amazon Relay does not rely only on a certificate uploaded by the trucking company. Amazon says its third-party vendor obtains the COI from the company's insurance agent, broker, or insurance company on file.

That verification matters when you're onboarding, renewing, or changing insurance. If coverage lapses, Amazon says you cannot book or haul Relay loads until it is reinstated.

If you're still getting set up, start with Amazon Relay's insurance requirements so your policy meets them before verification.

How Does Amazon Relay Verify Your Insurance?

When you apply, you enter your current insurance details in Relay. Amazon says its third-party vendor then gets the certificate of insurance from the agent, broker, or insurance company on file.

Amazon's February 2026 guidance specifically identifies RMIS in the renewal verification process. The insurance side needs to be prepared to confirm the policy information directly.

A COI is proof of insurance. It summarizes information such as the named insured, policy dates, coverage types and limits. The policy itself controls coverage; the certificate does not create or change coverage.

What Is RMIS in the Amazon Relay Insurance Process?

RMIS is the third-party system Amazon references for insurance verification. From the insurance side, I treat it as a verification step—not as another policy or separate coverage.

When Should You Update Amazon Relay at Renewal?

Amazon recommends starting renewal two to three weeks before expiration and entering updated insurance information in the Relay Insurance tab at least five days before the current policy ends so there is time for verification.

I would not wait until the expiration date. A renewal can involve updated drivers, vehicles, loss runs, underwriting questions, payment arrangements and revised certificates.

What Happens If Your Insurance Lapses?

Amazon says that if coverage lapses, your company will not be able to book or haul Relay loads until the insurance is reinstated.

Why Would Amazon Say Your Insurance Does Not Meet the Requirements?

Before assuming the problem is Amazon itself, I would check the insurance information:

  • A required coverage or limit is missing

  • Policy dates do not match the information entered in Relay

  • Named insured or company information does not match

  • A renewal or policy change has not been reflected

  • The COI has not yet been obtained or verified through the required process

Sometimes the policy needs to change. Sometimes the coverage is already correct and the updated information simply needs to be verified. I would not change coverage until we know which problem we're solving.

Can the Trucking Company Send Its Own COI?

Amazon's public guidance says its third-party vendor obtains the COI from the company's agent, broker, or insurance company on file. That confirms the information from the insurance side rather than relying only on a document supplied by the trucking company.

If RMIS gives specific certificate-holder or submission instructions for your account, follow the current instructions in that process. Administrative instructions can change.

What Should You Do Before Your Amazon Relay Renewal?

  • Start reviewing the policy two to three weeks before expiration

  • Make sure drivers, trucks, trailers and business information are current

  • Review Amazon's current insurance requirements

  • Bind early enough to avoid a lapse

  • Enter updated insurance details in Relay at least five days before expiration

  • Make sure verification is completed before relying on the account for loads

How Can Alex Help?

If you're renewing Amazon Relay insurance or dealing with an insurance-verification issue, I can review the policy, coverage limits and certificate information from the insurance side. If a coverage change is actually needed, I can help address it with the available insurance market.

Amazon Relay and RMIS control their own verification procedures, which can change. I can help with the insurance policy, coverage and certificate side, but I do not control Amazon or RMIS approvals and do not provide Amazon onboarding or DOT compliance services.
